Noah's Play

God
I am God and I created man,
Man, who now rejects my plan,
And does the earth with sin defile,
O sadly is there ought more vile.

1st thief
Good day to you, and how are you feeling.

2nd thief
My mate and I are in to stealing.

1st thief
We're pretty big.

2nd thief
We're pretty strong.
1st thief
Besides there ain't no right or wrong.

2nd thief
But who's this comes with great stout rod?

1st thief
'Tis Noah, says he speaks to God.

Noah
O wicked man your time's misspent,
Turn back to God, from sin repent.

2nd thief
Ham, Shem, Japheth, they call him dad.

1st thief
To us he's Noah, and stark staring mad.

EXIT THIEVES

God
Noah goodness in you I see,
For you have put your trust in me.
But look elsewhere and all I find,
Wickedness and sin enslave mankind.
A flood dear Noah I shall send,
That corrupt mankind may meet his end.
But Noah servant , you to me belong,
Go build a boat and make it strong,
One hundred and thirty metres long.

Noah
Lord your work is my command.
I shall do as you have planned.
Now where's that joy unto my life,
Yes my dearest darling wife.

Noah's wife
And do I find my husband well?

Noah
Dear wife I have God's word to tell,
Now we must start to build a boat,
So we on coming floods can float.

Noah's wife
Husband I too will follow our God's plan.

Noah
Let's tell Japheth, Shem, and Ham.

Shem
My name's Shem and I've got strength.
This axe will cut down trees to length.

Japheth
Japheth here, and before the rain,
On wood I'll use my trusty plane.

Ham
I'm Ham whose hammer never fails,
When knocking in these iron nails.

Noah
Come sons and wives let's never shirk.
Remember we shall do God's work.

1st thief
Noah sure is off his head.

2nd thief
Don't he know that God is dead?

1st thief
Why work when I can stay in bed?

2nd thief
'Tis thieving keeps us both well fed.

Ham, Shem and Japheth's wives
We're the wives of Japheth, Ham and Shem,
We'll do Lord's work, just like the men.

Ham's wife
Can see what I have in this Jar?
With brushes we will paint on tar.

Shem's wife
Paint on sides.

Japheth's wife
And on roof.

Shem's wife
For we must make it waterproof.

God
Noah you have done what I have planned,
This is now what I command.
Take seven pair, each bird and beast,
The greatest unto very least.
Take them in boat with sons and wives,
All things on earth must lose their lives.

Noah
Let's work to answer our God's call.
Gather animals in before rainfall.

1st thief
Oh God the rain comes pouring from the sky.

2nd thief
In such a flood we're doomed to die.

Shem
For forty days this constant rain.
It's stopped. Shall we see earth again?

Noah
I shall send out this black raven.
See if it can find a haven.

Ham
Sad to say, alas, alack,
Raven never did come back.

Noah
O'er mountains, waters still are high above.
Dear wife let's send out snow white dove.

Shem's wife
Seven days for dove we all do seek,

EVERYONE LOOKING OVER HORIZON.

Japheth
It's back with olive leaf in beak!

Noah
Send out dove a second time,
Now off you go and fly.
And if you don't return we'll know,
That there's a place that's dry.

God
Noah you can leave the boat, with your sons and wives

Noah
O Lord I'll make a sacrifice for the saving of our lives.

God
To you I make a promise, to you and all from you descend.
Flood will ne'er destroy the earth, on that you can depend.
Though man will still be evil, my promise I will show.
When sky is bright with colour of my covenant rainbow.

Noah
I know that man is evil, to be saved what must I do?

God
Have faith in me, you surely know, I keep my promise true.

Speaker
From Noah's time until today, he's kept his promise true,
And gave his son, Jesus Christ, as sacrifice for you.
