Moses and the Exodus

Pharaoh
I am Pharaoh you should know.
And O my heart is full of woe
For in number Israelites grow.

Egyptian one
O king, if they become so great in number.
In a war, our homes they'll plunder.

Pharaoh
I am Pharaoh, I've a plan
Make slaves of them, woman and man.

Egyptian two
O Pharaoh still it is a wonder,
Israelites still increase in number.

Pharaoh
I've thought of this for some great while.
All new born boys drown in the Nile.

Israelite mother
O my darling baby boy,
To save your life I must employ
These reeds I'll make into a basket.
On Nile you'll float, as in a casket.

Egyptian princess
I'm an Egyptian Princess, I've got style.
A baby I've found in the Nile.
A name for him, well I have chose, he's
Out of water, call him Moses

Moses
I am Moses and an Israelite,
An Egyptian kills man in a fight.
By my hand, well he must die,
And then from Egypt I must fly.

God
Moses to your God be turning.
Find him in this bush that's burning.

Moses
O God you know it's here I stand.
I cover my face for you are grand.

God
In Egypt my people I do see,
And I know that they are not free.
Go to Pharaoh, for I've planned.
You'll lead them out of Egypt's land.

Moses
Oh God, a question I make plain.
What's answer, when Israelites ask your name?

God
O Moses tell them to a man.
That I am the one who is called, I AM.

Moses
But God, all those Israelites I see.
What if they do not believe me.

God
With some water, your hand and rod,
I'll make some miracles, for I am God

Moses
But God don't send me for you know,
As a speaker I am slow.

God
Who gives man his mouth, or makes him deaf or dumb,
O Moses know that it is I, I'm the all powerful one.
So do not ever you despair, or ever you dismay,
For I will help you for to speak and tell you what to say.

Moses
I know without you Lord I have no power myself.
All I ask is that you send ssssomebody else?

God
O Moses, I am angry, but I know what to do. Here comes your brother Aaron, and he will speak for you.

Aaron
Well brother sure as my name's Aaron,
In using words I am quite darin'
It's no problem don't you know
Tell old Pharaoh, let us go.

Israelite one
Listen to me, a tale of woe.
Pharaoh's once again said no.
Whilst Aaron and Moses, jaw, jaw, jaw,
I make bricks, and look for straw.

Aaron
O Pharaoh, let my people go!
For if your answer, it is no
You will find it a mistake,
God turns stick into a snake!

Pharaoh
Pharaoh has the power you know.
Tell God his people cannot go.

Aaron
I'll strike my rod upon the Nile.
Make this river something vile.

Egyptian one
This water's gone the brightest red.
Drink from the Nile and we'll be dead,
For water isn't mixed with mud.
For it has turned quite into ... blood. Yuk.

Pharaoh
Shall I let these people go?
Moses still the answers no!

Aaron
Hold my rod over the Nile,
And watch them leap for they have style.

Frogs
For we're a plague, can jump o'er logs
Here us croak, for we are frogs. Croak, croak, croak.

Pharaoh
O Shock horror, what a mess!
Must let your people go I guess?
Your God must his power now show.
Kill the frogs, then you can go.

Moses
We'll pray to God, that is the way,
Tell him what Pharaoh has to say.

Aaron
The frogs are dead, now can we go.

Pharaoh
Alas my answer must be no!

Aaron
The next plague then comes fast and thick.
Upon the ground I'll beat my stick.

Gnats
We come in millions, fancy that,
And darken skies, for I'm a gnat.

Egyptian two
O woe is us, and what a blow,
Still our Pharaoh he says no.

Egyptian one
O look at that up in the skies,
It's a plague, a plague of flies.

Moses
Now Pharaoh you are very wise.
Our prayers rid nation of the flies.
We thank our God you let us go.

Pharaoh
You've got it wrong, I still say no.

Moses
Watch then what the Lord has planned,
Animals die across the land.

Egyptian three
Must 've been something Pharaoh said.
Now my poor old horse is dead.

Aaron
O Pharaoh, now you've done your dash.
God's plague will come, when we throw ash.

Egyptian three
This latest plague my looks it spoils.
Don't look at me , for I have boils!

Aaron
O Pharaoh, Pharaoh, can't you see,
There is no other God but he.
Are all these plagues to no avail?

Moses
I raise my hands, it blows a gale.

Egyptian four
Another plague, we now have hail!

Pharaoh
Yes, I have sinned and made a blunder.
Our people've had enough of thunder.
Your God can stop it right away,
Then Israelites can go on their way.

Moses
O God, may my prayers never fail.
I ask that you might stop the hail
It's ruined barley, ruined flax
Cut them down, like one great axe.

Pharaoh
A happy day, the hail has ceased.
From this plague, we are released.
So Israelites can now go away?
No, no Moses they must stay!

God
I am God, I am the Lord.
My power is mightier than the sword.
Egyptian and Israelite, if you can,
These plagues do say, I AM, I AM.

Aaron
Pharaoh says we cannot leave this land.
A voracious plague our God has planned.

Moses
All I do is raise my arms
Plague comes down on field and farms.

Locusts
O'er this land we locusts roam.
Eat you out of house and home.

Pharaoh
O Moses, it indeed is true.
I've sinned against your God and you.
Release us from this plague you must.
For locusts turned our land to dust.

Israelite one
Well what do you know.
Moses says let people go.
Pharaoh says they can away.
Moses then goes off to pray.
Of course when all those locusts go,
Pharaoh still, he answers no!

God
Moses raise your hand on high.
Raise them up unto the sky.
Egypt's land with darkness cover.
For three days they won't see each other.

Egyptian one
It's Pharaohs fault, we all well know,
For he won't let those Israelites go.
For three days now we're in the dark
I've got a candle, have you a spark?

Pharaoh
Now I say upon my word,
You can go and worship Lord.
But my instructions, listen now.
Take no goat or sheep or cow.

Moses
To our God with one accord,
We'll sacrifice animals to our Lord.
Without them we just cannot go.
To your offer we say no.

Pharaoh
Moses recognise my power and might.
I'm angry, now get out my sight.
As to going, you must know.
Still my answer must be no!

Egyptian four
Moses now achieves great fame,
Egyptians and Israelites know his name.

Pharaoh
Now Moses, now my words do mark,
For three days we've been in the dark.
Tell your God we do survive,
That Egypt still is much alive.

Aaron
O Pharaoh let our people go
For there's something you must know.

Moses
And here I am for you to warn.
God's next plague will kill first born.

Egyptian four
With anger Moses face turns blue.

Pharaoh
We'll live through all your God can do.
Well may you ask, can people go.
Still my answer must be no.

Aaron
Israelites listen to what God does say.
Take goat or lamb on special day.
Roast and eat, but blood do store.
Then paint it on the posts of door.

Israelites
But Moses why, O why, O why!

Moses
So God, he will not let us die!

Israelite one
Let's all follow God's great plan.
Here, I'll slaughter this young lamb.

Israelite two
And with my goat I'll do a roast.

Israelite three
Then paint its blood upon door post.

God
Egyptians then, will death discover,
Israelites homes, it will pass over.
Yes, death will come upon this night
To Egypt's sons, but not Israelite.

Egyptian one
Oh I wail, Oh I cry,
What has made my son to die?

Egyptian two
Oh what has Israelite God now done?
Death has come to first born son.

Egyptian three
A time to weep, no time to laugh.
Dead I find my first born calf.

Egyptian four
Things have gone from bad to worse
Find I'm flogging a dead horse.

Egyptians (CHANT)
Pharaoh, something you should know!
You must let those Israelites go.
If you want the reason why.
You have let our first born die.

Pharaoh
Moses, you must leave fair Egypt's land,
Take your people as you've planned.
Hurry now, be on your way,
Bless me when, to your God you pray.

Egyptian one
In leaving, we'll be surely blessed.
Can I give you this fine dress?

Egyptian two
Here's a gift, rich to behold.
Can I give you bands of gold?

Israelite one
Hurry now for we must go,
But who shall lead us, I don't know.

Moses
Come, let us in our god abide,
He shall ever be our guide.

God
Listen now to what I say,
Follow my cloud whilst it is day.
A pillar of fire you'll see by night,
To guide you on the way that's right.

Egyptian one
Oh Pharaoh tell us it's not true,
Our slaves heft left and now we've work to do.

Pharaoh
Those Israelites, those we freedom gave
Alas whatever shall we do, if we have none to slave.
I call upon my soldiers, they are my fighting men,
Make haste into your chariots and chase after them.

Israelite one
Oh we have trudged through desert sand,
And wonder, why we left fair Egypt's land.

Israelite two
Leaving Egypt was stupid, if you are asking me,
For now we have a problem. How to cross Red Sea.?

Moses
Trust in God For there's a plan for you and me.
Trust Him as he tells me to put hand across the sea

Israelite three
The sea it has parted! No time for idle talk.
Lets go together and through it we shall walk.

Egyptian solider one
To arms men and be ready, be ready for the fight.
For we shall follow after them, the accursed Israelite.

Egyptian solider two
Alas alack things aren't just as we have planned.

Egyptian solider three
For our axles are now bogged, deep in desert sand.

Moses
Continue for to trust in God Do what he has planned.
I place my hand where once was sea but now is golden sand.

Egyptian solider one
The sea now rolls upon us, Israelite God on us do frown.
For we Egyptian soldiers, we must surely drown.

Moses
Now let us all do praise our God for he has set us free,
He's brought us out of bondage from Egyptian slavery.

Israelites all together (SING FROM SCRIPTURE IN SONG 168.)
I will sing unto the Lord, for He has triumphed gloriously,
The horse and rider thrown into the sea.
I will sing unto the Lord, for He has triumphed gloriously,
The horse and rider thrown into the sea.
The Lord my God my strength , my song is now become my victory
The Lord my God my strength , my song is now become my victory
The Lord is God and I will praise him my Father's God and I will exalt him
The Lord is God and I will praise him my Father's God and I will exalt him.

THE END
