Teens
and young adults are welcome at our Drop-In Centre 8pm–10pm, Tuesday and Friday evenings. It is lead by our Youth Minister Angelo
Porcu.
We offer an based service, which includes:
- pool
- basketball on our in-door half-court basketball court and
- table tennis.
We also have regular outings that are fun and safe. Past outings include:
- a trip to Wattamolla beach in the Royal National Park
- a drive to
Echo Point & surrounds in the Blue
Mountains
- fishing by boat at Brighton Le Sands, Sans Souci,
Mosman
- seeing Mel Gibson's film The Passion of The Christ at the
movies and
- jail
visits to both Silverwater and Long Bay Jails
with some 'at risk' youth who themselves are on the
road to jail if they don't try to turn their lives around.
Common sense discussions which are based on relevant Bible readings
are provided each time the Centre operates. The idea is to make God's
Word relevant to the lives of the youth, and challenge them to consider
Christ in their lives.
We are happy to say that we offer a safe environment for all ethnic
groups which play and think together.
Assistance is also given in the area of life skills in reading, study
and living skills.
Angelo also leads Street Walking, training others in walking around
the streets of the parish and making contact with youth. This might be
in front of their homes, at local parks, and if they're playing a game
in the park, to join in with the youth, if they allow us. The aim is
to meet youth where they are rather than waiting for them to come to
the Drop-In Centre. It targets youth who will not dare enter a church
ground or building. Once this has happened the Drop-In Centre will be
available for those teens who are looking for that sort of outlet.
